More About Me:
After experiencing an awful personal experience with my own son I became a childcare provider in 1994. The spouse of the in-home provider for my son grabbed him by the shirt and twisted it around his neck. He then dragged him down a hall and slammed him on the floor. This horrible interaction took place because he was crying for his mother. After this incident took place he had a ring around his neck and I was mortified. From that point on I decided that he would never go into a stranger's home again if I could help it. I have committed to making sure no parent of the children I care for will ever have to feel the pain and anxiety that I felt when my son was abused. I do not support disciplining a child by use of physical force under ANY circumstance.
In 1999 I owned a children's resale store called MY Kids in Glendale, Arizona. I continued my daycare in my store for a couple of children. My store was open for 3 years but as I was coming to a close I decided to do something to make a difference in the lives of beaten and battered children so in conjunction with The West Valley Child Crisis Center I held a diaper drive to collect packages of diapers. In effort to garner as much media attention as possible I decided to climb on the roof of my store and stay there day and night until I had 10,000 packs of diapers donated. Well it was a super great experience for me and my children and it ONLY took 7 days but we DID IT!!!! We helped to raise 10,000 packs of diapers and roughly $8000 in cash. I'd love to share the newspaper article with you!
I have since been an in home daycare provider with the exception of this last 4 years when I took an extended vacation from daycare children to be with my biological and foster children. I think children are wonderful and I love the idea that I am here to be such big a part of their lives as they grow!
